Tumaini Rescue Centre

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

– Matthew 19: 14

What is the Tumaini Rescue Centre?

CRWRF has supported the Tumaini Rescue Centre since 1991 and presently there are approximately 30 children being cared for and supported through the sponsorship program. Representatives visit “our” homes on a regular basis and make recommendations for improvements. By training the local staff and community members, these centres will seek to increase visibility and community involvement in the care and support of orphans and vulnerable children.

Prayer Requests

  • Political stability and an end to violent demonstrations.
  • Wisdom in making the decisions on how best to implement government mandated changes to the centres.

Tumaini Rescue Centres efforts towards self sufficiency

  • Harvested maize, beans, Irish potatoes & fodder for dairy cows.
  • Potatoes were planted for income generation & children’s consumption.
  • Dairy cows produced enough milk for consumption & surplus for sale.
Challenges
  • Implementing the new care reforms by developing a transition plan from the rescue home to a Community Welfare Program where children are supported within a family setting.
  • Economic situation affecting the whole country of Kenya due to high inflation.
  • Changes in education curriculum came with added costs of paying feeding program.
